I've found it very easy to install.   The only difficulties I had was when I
wanted to mix protocols.  Had to reconfigure IBMTCP to use NDIS.  Version 4.0
looks like it would be much easier to do it if I had to do it again. ODI
support means I can go back to using the local lan...

   Much improved.  you can now do receives and sends of files without using
ftp.  i.e. with IND$FILE which is on most IBM mainframes.  You can set a number
of options such as translation and file disposition, etc.   You can have it log
to windows or to a file and/or disk.  you can see attributes and nulls if you
wish as well.    One thing I'd really like to see is auto rescaling of fonts
other than 'newt'.  i.e. use non-proportional truetype fonts.

Actually you CAN view local and remote files in ver 4.0.  Info on the files can
be had by highlighting the file and pressing 'info'.  I hope in a future verion
they will include the file info on the same line as the filenames rather than
having to press info.

Also supports MAPI, for including files in your mail.  Also includes
UUencode/decode and rot13.

works fine, it would be nice to be able to specify access rights like they do
in the ftp server. or to be able to decide on the fly to accept a transfer or
not.

I don't have this problem and I'm subscribed to about a 1000 groups...
They added the ability to do sorting which I sorely missed until now.

you may want to do gopher to gopher.netmanage.com to get more info on their
product(s).  They also show winsock apps from various ftp sites.

overall I like the product and I've had very good tech support when I've found
bugs.  They're quick to make bug fixes which is good to know.

Subject: IRC for Windows.

    I just downloaded IRC for windows (wirc101.zip, I think) and I
don't know if it's working Ok.

    There is a bug certainly. The windows inside IRC are using a
non-fixed pitch font. So I have a very strange look for these windows.
The command line at the bottom of the window is to small to the
characters it use. I can only see the top half of the thinhs I type.

    When I /join some channel, a new window appears. The messages
that come from the just joined channel appears in the old window (not
the one that just appeared). When I type a message to the channel (no
matter which window I use) IRC interprets my message as a command. So if
I type Hello, I receive "Hello, command not valid".

    My questions:

    o How can I talk to a channel, and stop sending
          commands to the server

        o How can I change the font the program is using and use some
          kind of courier font

        o How do I manage the windows that appear

        o How do I leave a channel. The leave command doesn't seems to
          be  implemented. And when I close a window, the whole session
          stops.

        o Is there another IRC for windows ? or a newer version ?

Although it is unlikely that WinIRC will be *fully* ircII compliant, I
am about to get started on adding the more 'critical' features into
WinIRC.  First on the list so far:

- /ME
- /AWAY
- /ALIAS
- Responding to PINGs

And, depending how those go:
- /ON
- /SERVER
- /SUMMON

But first, more 'basic' things like:

- Cut/Copy/Paste operations
- Better window controls
- Multiple configurations (like different NICK's for different servers)
- A help file
- .ircrc functionality (auto-startup script)

And, some things I've picked up in my years of chatting online in IRC,
GEnie, Compuserve, and zillions of BBSes - for example a 'friends list'
so you can track only certain folks coming and going.  Also, the ability
to send an email by double clicking a NICK...  I'd also like to build
in a trivia game engine - one that would use standard format trivia
data files, and 'host' a trivia game - like a bot, but as many folks
connect via SLIP it needs to have a human user interface on the local
end too...

So, there are many ideas in the works - hopefully we will be using a
really cool WinIRC by summer :-)

I would like to work on making WinIRC as user friendly as possible (and bug
free) before spending time on the advanced ircII stuff that only the true
gurus even know about :-)

And, speaking of irc... stop by #WINSOCK next time you're on - my handle
is howie and I'm ususally there in the evenings (EST time).
